Hi! I’m Suzanne.
I love to read. I have always loved to read and I can specifically remember elements of my favorite books dating all the way back to elementary school. I read every day, from fiction to nonfiction, textbooks to cookbooks. I read out loud to my own children long after they can read to themselves. I know that reading opens doors, and is beneficial both academically and personally.
But not everyone loves reading. Turning letters into words and words into sentences that have meaning is a daunting task for many children. Everything about life is more difficult if reading is a challenge.
As an educator with over 20 years of experience working with children, I want to help children learn to read, and learn to read well. For some that will mean learning how the letters on the page work together to make words. For others it will be learning how authors convey meaning and personally developing a strong vocabulary so that meaning comes more easily.
I love to read, and I want to help your child love to read, too.

About your tutor
Hey there! My name is Suzanne Brock and I have been working with students in some capacity since 2001, when I was a first-semester education student. After graduating from The College of William and Mary with a double major in elementary education and history, I taught kindergarten in Virginia and then first and second grades in Los Angeles. I took a hiatus from full-time teaching to have five sons and spend my time at home with them while they were young. During that time I never stopped volunteering as a tutor and teacher in various capacities. In September 2020, I partnered with a preschool to implement a new Kindergarten program, which I planned and taught for two years. That re-ignited my love of teaching reading, and I decided to pursue my Master’s of Science in Education with a major in Reading at Old Dominion University. I will finish there in December 2023.
I have been married to my husband, Jimmy, a pastor, since 2005, and we have five sons who are themselves voracious readers: Nathan, Isaac, Toby, Zachary, and Asher. We also have five pets: a cat named Sonny, two bearded dragons (Smaug & Pancake), a leopard gecko named Noah Abraham, and a corn snake named Cinderumplestiltskin.
